In today’s world, it can be competitive when it comes to recruiting and hiring.
One of the main areas where companies could use a little love is onboarding. Don’t fret, we are here to help! Onboarding doesn’t just consist of orientation. Look at some orientation tips below for the whole enchilada!
1. Onboarding starts when the offer is accepted and ends when an employee is acclimated with the culture. This can take months so buckle up and enjoy the onboarding ride!
2. Reiterating your company’s mission, vision, and values is HUGE to a new employee feeling connected.
3. Onboarding can take a village- but in a good way! HR isn’t the only group that should be helping an employee get onboarded. Managers and peers can also help. Direct managers are crucial and have the most impact on a new hire.
4. Set clear goals and expectations right off the bat! By doing this, direct managers can help a new hire fully understand their role and what they need to do to succeed.
5. Create a buddy program. Having someone to go to other than a direct manager can be helpful and not so intimidating for someone new to the company. Assign them a peer that they can go to with questions that they think might be silly to ask their manager.
6. Use a blend of teaching methods when training. Not everyone learns the same. Repeating what is taught is also very helpful for those that may not get it the first time.
7. Feedback. Feedback. And more feedback! Ongoing feedback can go a long way and help set your new team member up for success. It can also encourage them when they do something great!
We hope that these tips and tricks help you and your organization attract and retain great talent!
